Example of Franz Kline stuff I'm faffin' on about |
Went to
Vertical Thoughts: Morton Feldman and the Visual Arts in
IMMA. Great exhibition, does a great job of sketching the relationships between the compositional devices of Feldman and the aesthetic concepts of the New York School (comprised of artists such as Rothko, Guston, Johns, Pollock and Kline). In particular the Franz Kline stuff left a big impression on me, with a high-contrast tonal starkness that served to emphasis the textural richness. Great to see some of Feldman's hand-written manuscripts as well.
Going to the Crash Ensemble performance of
Rothko Chapel and
Words & Music that is being organised to tie in with the exhibition. Really looking forward to it. Details
here.
